Today we received the very sad news of the passing of Els Swelheim at the age of 84. She was a member of Ierdie for a large part of her life and a passionate lover, breeder and owner of the Irish Wolfhound and the Great Dane together with her husband Tob. Without a doubt, she was at the cradle of the Foundation of the European Federation of Irish Wolfhounds, now FIWC, alongside her husband.
With her passing, we also lose a highly valued international judge for the Irish Wolfhound, the Great Danes and the Greyhounds. This year she had the honor of judging the young dogs and veterans for the FIWC at the biennial Congress in Hungary, unfortunately she had to cancel due to illness.
Els was always present, decisive, combative and never minced her words. One of the ‘grand old ladies’ of the Irish Wolfhounds has passed away. We will miss her.
We wish family and friends much strength with this great loss.
